Lightweight: Matt Wiman def. Paul Sass via submission (arm bar) at 3:48 of round 1.
Sass wasted no time in going for a single leg take down. He dropped to his back to attack Wiman's leg but was too close to the cage and Wiman was able to stuff it. Sass threatened with an omplata then dropped for a heel hook. Wiman attempted a triangle and ended up losing position. Wiman landed a sharp elbow from his back but Sass opened fire with right hands from the top. Wiman went for a Russian arm bar but struggled to roll Sass to his back. Then Wiman extended Sass' arm and got the tap.
Welterweight: John Hathaway def. John Maguire via unanimous decision (30-27 x3).
Hathaway scored the first significant strike of the fight with a right high kick to the southpaw Maguire. He followed with a couple more kicks to the legs and body. Hathaway pressured Maguire for most of the first but didn't land much of import. Hathaway went for a knee tap take down and dropped Maguire but his own momentum carried him past the fallen Maguire who hopped back up. Maguire finally landed some shots then shot in for a take down of his own but Hathaway pulled a switch and fended Maguire off.
Hathaway got Maguire down from a body lock about a minute into the second. The two stalemated in Maguire's half guard before Hathaway stood up following a butterfly sweep attempt from Maguire. He dropped back down and Maguire went for a triangle but Hathaway quickly escaped. Hathaway eventually got side control and landed some shots from the top.
Not a lot happened in the first half of the third round as Maguire seemed to have no offensive options against the bigger and stronger Hathaway and Hathaway seemed content to ride his lead. Maguire got a take down with about 90 seconds left in the fight. He rapidly advanced to side control where he landed some elbows. Hathaway got back to half and then full guard. It was too little, too late for Maguire.
Maguire drops to 1-2 in the UFC and 18-4 overall. Hathaway improves his UFC record to 7-1. He's 17-1 overall.
