Opening up the FX prelims broadcast for UFC On Fox 5, Dennis Siver completely steamrolled Nam Phan to earn one of the most dominant decision wins in UFC history. This was Siver's (21-8) second fight at Featherweight and kicked his UFC record up to 9-2. Phan (18-11) dropped to 2-4 as a UFC fighter.
The first round was contested completely on the feet. Siver came out landing heavy with kicks from range and continued to land almost whatever he wanted throughout the round. His high output had him a little winded by the end of the round, so he took Phan down early in the second. He spent the next 10 minutes punishing Phan with heavy ground and pound. The judges recognized Siver's dominance with scores of 30-26, 30-25, and 30-24.
What was the high point of the fight?
In the first two minutes of the fight showed exactly how the next 13 would go. Siver blasted Phan with everything in his arsenal and Phan did little more than absorb it.
Where do they go from here?
Siver made his Featherweight debut in April against #7 ranked Featherweight Diego Nunes. He came away with a decision there and now followed it up with a fantastic performance over Phan. It's time for the UFC to put him back in the mix against the top of the division.
Since coming out of the TUF 12 house, Nam's UFC run has been lackluster at best. In his promotional debut at the finale he was robbed of a decision against Leonard Garcia and, while he avenged that loss, things haven't gotten better. This was the second time he's been emphatically dominated in the Octagon and with 4 losses in 6 fights it might be time for him to hit the regional circuit.
Watch it now, later, or never?
Watch it now. Despite sometimes looking like he was working a heavy bag, it's definitely worth your while to see Siver go to work here.
