As UFC Fight Night 28 approaches, there are a few fighters returning from injury. Here's a rundown of those fighters and their injury history.
Wisniewski enters his first bout since April 2012, when he lost a split decision to Chris Clements at UFC 145. In September of 2012, he underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder. Keith has stated that while training for a fight last summer, pain was preventing him from having consistency in training and he would have to stop his routine. It was then he was diagnosed with the labrum tear.
One of the primary functions of the labrum is to help stabilize the shoulder joint. It does this by forming a suction seal between the socket (called the glenoid) and the head of the shoulder bone (the humerus). A tear to the labrum can disrupt this stabilizing force for the shoulder joint, possibly leading to a mild degree of instability.
Wisniewski will fight Ivan Jorge at UFC Fight Night 28 on the preliminary card.
Marcos last stepped into the Octagon in December 2012 at the TUF 16 finale. He lost to Johnny Bedford via KO. In April of this year it was announced that Vinicius had suffered a knee injury and had to pull out of his scheduled UFC on Fuel TV 10 fight. On Wednesday night, Marcos will square off against Ali Bagautinov on the Fox Sports 1 main card.
Bader returns to fight for the first time since suffering a medial collateral ligament (MCL) knee injury. This injury forced him to withdraw from his scheduled bout at UFC 160 in May. His injury was not treated surgically. Unlike injuries involving the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), injuries to the MCL, including tears, are not typically treated with surgery. Because of its location on the inside of the knee, the MCL is the primary restraint against inward buckling (or valgus stress) of the knee.
Bader will fight Glover Teixeira in the main event at UFC Fight Night 28. It will be interesting to see if Glover attacks the leg, especially with outside leg kicks that could stress Bader's MCL.
