UFC 169 Injury Rewind

UFC 169: Barao vs. Faber goes down tonight in New Jersey. Here is a look at fighters returning from injury, or those with an interesting injury history.

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Nick Catone

Catone will fight tonight for the first time since December 2012. He was scheduled to face James Head at UFC 159 in April 2013, but he failed to make weight for that welterweight bout. In his attempt to cut weight, Catone dehydrated himself severely enough to warrant a trip to the hospital and the fight was cancelled. Nick will face Tom Watson on the Fox Sports 1 prelims.

Tom Watson

In a December 2013 interview, Watson noted that "I can't actually remember what my last injury was. There's so many..." He last appeared in the Octagon in August of last year at UFC 163. He apparently suffered a fractured foot and a rib injury in that bout. Watson's last scheduled fight vs. Alessio Sakara at UFC Fight Night 30 was cancelled due to his injuries. Watson will square off with Nick Catone in a preliminary card bout.

Jamie Varner

Varner's last fight was in August 2013 at UFC 164. He was set to fight Pat Healy at UFC on Fox 9 in December, but that contest was cancelled when Varner suffered a torn rotator cuff during sparring. He apparently was able to avoid surgery, and now returns to face Abel Trujillo on the pay-per-view main card.

John Lineker

No injury to report here, but Lineker did make weight at 126 pounds. However, it's evident that the cut was not easy for him. Here's a picture of his team helping him recover after making the weight cut.

Lineker faces Ali Bagautinov on the main card of tonight's UFC 164 PPV.

Urijah Faber

Again, no recent injury to report for Faber, as he has been on a four fight tear in the UFC leading up to tonight's bantamweight title fight with Renan Barao. But with Jose Aldo fighting on the same card, this is a perfect time to remind the BE readers what Faber's leg looked like after his 2010 fight with Aldo.

The damage to Faber's leg put him on crutches for some time after the fight.

Renan Barao

Barao was pulled from his scheduled fight with Eddie Wineland at UFC 161 last year due to torn ligaments in his foot. The two fighters did meet at UFC 165, with Barao winning via TKO. Barao meets Urijah Faber in tonight's main event.
