UFC 158 results recap: George Roop vs. Reuben Duran

New, comment

Roop made his Bantamweight debut with a unanimous decision over Duran to open up the action at UFC 158.

UFC 158 opened up with a Bantamweight George Roop (13-9, 1 NC) taking a unanimous decision over Reuben Duran (8-5-1) on the Facebook prelims. Roop improved to 2-3 in the UFC while Duran fell to 1-3.

Roop came out early with kicks trying to work for distance. However, Duran was able to counter him and score a takedown. Not a lot of damage done, but it won Reuben the round on two judges cards. The second round saw Roop taking the advantage and defending Duran's takedown attempts and even scoring one of his own. In the final round, Roop once again fended off Reuben's takedowns and also worked some good knees against the cage. After the bell, the judges scored it 29-28 x2, 30-27 for Roop.

What was the high point of the fight?

Early in the first, Duran landed a nice combination that had Roop hurt.

Where do they go from here?

It wasn't the most exciting fight nor the against the highest quality of competition, but it was still a win for Roop's Bantamweight debut. The victory most likely saved him from getting cut from the promotion and he'll get another chance to make his name in the 135 lb. division.

With only a single UFC win to his name, Reuben Duran's time with the company is probably coming to an end. He'll head down to the regional circuit and hopefully pick up a few wins to get back to the big leagues.

Watch it now, later, or never?

No reason to go back and watch it. There have been worse fights, but there wasn't really anything special about this one.
