Myles Jury opened up the UFC 155 FX prelims with a dominant decision win over Michael Johnson. The unanimous decision (30-27 x 3) kept Jury (11-0) undefeated in his two UFC fights. Johnson (12-7) had been on a 3 fight win streak, but the loss drops him to 4-3 as a UFC Lightweight.
Jury set the tone for the fight about two minutes into round 1. He hit Johnson with a trip takedown and landed in half guard. From there on Johnson looked like a fish out of water. Jury passed to dominant positions repeatedly while delivering brutal strikes on the ground and hunting for submissions. Johnson did a little better in round 2, but once again found himself floundering early in the third.
What was the high point of this fight?
Jury's dominance throughout the first round. His top control and aggressive transitions not only left Johnson almost helpless, but he was able to do real damage as well.
Where do they go from here?
Jury stole a lot of momentum from Johnson with this win. "The Menace" was sitting just outside of the top 25 before this fight, and "Fury" just supplanted him. Jorge Masvidal could make a good match for him when he comes over from Strikeforce.
This loss was a big blow to Michael Johnson. He'd impressed a lot of people with his 3 fight win streak especially with his second round knockout of Danny Castillo at UFC On FX 5. Tim Means would be a good fight for him to get back on track.
Watch it now, later, or never?
Watch it now. Jury proved himself as a talented prospect and you'll want to see what awaits others in the Lightweight division.
