UFC 155 results recap: Todd Duffee vs. Philip De Fries

In the last UFC 155 Facebook prelims fight, Todd Duffee made an emphatic return to the Octagon.

USA TODAY Sports

Heavyweight Todd Duffee closed out the UFC 155 prelims on Facebook with a first round (2:04) knockout of Philip De Fries. Duffee stepped in for Matt Mitrione after "Meathead" was moved to the TUF 16 Finale to fight Roy Nelson. Duffee (8-2) improved to 2-1 in the UFC. De Fries (9-2, 1 NC) fell to 2-2 with the promotion.

Duffee looked like he was going to repeat his performance against Tim Hague at UFC 102. He cracked De Fries in the opening seconds with a counter left hook that wobbled De Fries. However, De Fries recovered and even managed to get Duffee in trouble with a takedown. He reeled off a series of right hands as Duffee struggled to return to his feet, but it wasn't enough. Once they returned to their feet, Duffee almost immediately rocked De Fries again and followed up to get the TKO.

What was the high point of this fight?

The early lead hook from Duffee. De Fries threw out a weak lead right and Duffee came right over the top with his left hand to put Philip on his heels. The action never slowed after that.

Where do they go from here?

After being released from the UFC in 2010 for his "bad attitude", Duffee needed a win in his return fight. He definitely got that win in a big way. I'd like to see him face another Heavyweight striker like Pat Barry in his next fight.

With a .500 record against the lower tier of the UFC's Heavyweight division, De Fries isn't on the chopping block yet, but he's not far away. For his next fight, a match with Shane Del Rosario seems fitting to decide who belongs in MMA's premier league.

Watch it now, later, or never?

Watch it now, because who doesn't like a Heavyweight KO?
