Antonio Carvalho opened up the FX broadcast of UFC 154 with a split decision win over Rodrigo Damm. The win brought Carvalho's UFC record up to 2-1 (15-5). Damm's now 1-1 in the UFC with a career record of 10-6.
The fight was close but far from action packed. Both Carvalho and Damm were mostly happy hitting single shots at a time and rarely landed any combinations. Probably the most effective strikes in the bout were Carvalho's leg kicks that colored Damm's thighs. In the end, two of the three judges gave Cavalho the nod.
What was the high point of the fight?
Seeing Damm's leg at the end of the first round. The round was slow, but the damage to his leg accumulated quickly.
Where do they go from here?
The split decision over Damm earned Carvalho a winning record as a UFC Featherweight. However, he wasn't especially impressive in this fight so I don't expect him to get a big jump in competition. He'd be a good match for Eddie Yagin once Yagin returns from injury.
The TUF: Brazil veteran Rodrigo Damm will be looking to get back in the winner's circle after this loss. At 1-1 and coming off the reality show, you'll probably be seeing him on the undercard of a Brazil event in 2013. TUF Live vet Sam Sicilia who's also 1-1 would make a good fight for Damm.
Watch it now, later, or never?
Never, the action was slow and there wasn't any remarkable moments from either fighter.
