The UFC recently announced that Shayna Baszler will miss this weekend's TUF 18 Finale due to an injury. Initially there were no details of her injury, but two brief videos posted on Instagram yesterday seems to point to an ankle injury as the culprit. The videos show Shayna receiving an alternative medicine treatment called cupping.
Cupping involves placing cups on the skin to create suction, which is purported to mobilize blood flow and "draw out" disease to promote healing. In Shayna's case, the cups were placed on the outside of her ankle.
The first video shows the practitioner placing the suction cups on Shayna's ankle.
Be warned: The second video shows blood being drawn out of the tissues of the lateral ankle through a series of small punctures in the skin.
No word regarding how bloodletting from an injured ankle will actually promote healing of the inflamed and possibly damaged ligament/tendon/muscle tissue of the ankle.
