UFC 163 results recap: Amanda Nunes vs. Sheila Gaff

Jason da Silva-USA TODAY Sports

In the only women's fight of the event, Bantamweight Amanda Nunes (8-3) TKO'd Sheila Gaff (10-6-1) in just two minutes on the UFC 163 FX prelims. Nunes was making her UFC debut. This was Gaff's second loss in the UFC, having given up a unanimous decision to Sara McMann at UFC 159.

Nunes surprised the commentary booth by looking for a takedown early. She successfully got Gaff down but didn't do a lot of damage on the first try. She followed up with a second takedown and proceeded to elbow and ground and pound a clearly overwhelmed Gaff forcing referee Herb Dean to stop the fight.

What was the high point of the fight?

Of course it's the finish. Though defensive, Gaff appeared to be in the fight until the second takedown. But, when she was unable to break Nunes' posture, it all fell apart and she just ate the blows until the fight was called.

Where do they go from here?

With only 13 fighters on the payroll, the women's Bantamweight division is wide open. Although Nunes still isn't knocking on the door to contendership, it could only take a couple more wins for Nunes to be eyeing the champion. in the meantime, I'd like to see her face Germaine de Randamie.

In many cases, a thin division can get a fighter an extra fight before being cut, but I don't think that will be the case for Gaff. She's now lost her first two UFC fights and has disappointed in both outings. The UFC will probably send her back to Invicta to pick up a couple wins before she steps in the Octagon again.

Watch it now, later, or never?

You can wait on this one. It's a fun, quick fight but you can check out some of the other UFC 163 action first.
