In the second main card fight of UFC 158, Chris Camozzi pushed his win streak to four with a close split decision win over fellow TUF 11contestant Nick Ring. The fight was contested on the fight, and was basically a battle between Ring's speed and Camozzi's physicality. Ring fought most of the fight with his hands down, darting in and out and landing his jab quite well. Camozzi alternated between attacking (which worked for him) and sitting back to try to figure Ring out (which didn't work for him).
In the end though, it was Camozzi who had the stronger final round as Ring had faded a bit, which earned him the split decision. The judges had it 29-28, 28-29, and 29-28.
What was the high point of the fight?
Camozzi landed a pretty nice knee to Ring's face from the thai clinch in the second, which caused Ring to bleed even more than he already was.
Where do they go from here?
As I mentioned above, Camozzi has now won four in a row and is 6-2 overall in the UFC. He's on one of the better winning streaks in the division, and his next matchup should come against another TUF 11 alum, Brad Tavares.
Ring has now dropped two out of his last three, and hasn't been very exciting in any of them. He's probably not in much danger of being released, but he's going to have to turn it up a bit to keep getting prime spots on Canadian cards. A fight with Jared Hamman could be pretty entertaining.
Watch now, later, or never?
Later. I was going to say never, but it was a decent striking battle. It's definitely nothing to write home about though.
