The second fight of the UFC 158 FX prelims featured Jordan Mein (27-8) getting a first round TKO over Dan Miller (14-7, 1 NC). Mein was making his UFC debut after moving over from Strikeforce. Miller dropped to 6-6 as a UFC Welterweight.
Mein found himself in trouble early when he got caught in an armbar attempt from Miller. He managed to survive then returned to his feet. It took Jordan a minute to get his rhythm back after that but when he did he unleashed on Miller. He dropped him once with a straight left and let him up. Then he dropped him again and followed with ground and pound to finish at 4:42 of the first round.
What was the high point of the fight?
The finishing sequence was incredible. Miller had never been finished in his career which made it that much more impressive for the young prospect.
Where do they go from here?
An impressive debut like the one Mein turned in is sure to catch the eyes of the UFC brass. It also shows that he needs a step up in competition. I'd like to see him step in the Octagon against Mike Pierce for his next fight.
Miller is a always a game opponent and has been willing to do the UFC favors as a late replacement in the past. Those two factors should save him the chopping block despite being only 1-3 in his last four fights.
Watch it now, later, or never?
Watch it now. It was a great performance from an impressive prospect who I expect to see making waves at the top of the division.
