In the second main card fight at UFC 157, Court McGee used a volume striking game to defeat Josh Neer by unanimous decision. McGee, the TUF 11 middleweight winner who was making his debut at 170, hurt Neer in the first with a big liver shot but couldn't finish him off before the horn. Neer made a brief comeback in the second round and was scoring points with his striking, but McGee took over the fight again late in the round and coasted through the third to seal it. All three judges had it 30-27 for McGee.
McGee ended a two-fight losing streak with the victory, while Neer has now dropped three in a row and is likely looking at getting cut from the organization.
What was the high point of the fight?
The liver shot. Neer did his best to act like he wasn't hurt, but he eventually went down.
Where do they go from here?
McGee probably isn't going to win the belt at 170, but his wrestling and aggressiveness could give a lot of mid-tier guys some trouble. I'd like to see him fight Sean Pierson next.
Neer's looking at a return to the regional circuit, and it's unclear if he'll ever be able to get back into the organization again after 15 fights over four different stints. He is 6-9 overall in the UFC, but it looks like his time has passed.
Watch now, later, or never?
Later. It wasn't a bad fight and had some action, but it's nothing you need to go out of your way to see.
