The TUF 16 veterans were up second on the Facebook prelims of UFC 157. Welterweight Neil Magny (8-1) outpointed Jon Manley (7-2) to win a lackluster decision. Both fighters were making their Octagon debut and were the only non-finalist competitors from season 16 to get a chance in the UFC.
Manley made it clear from the first round that his gameplan was to secure a takedown and work from top position. However, throughout the fight, Magny defended ably and scored some takedowns of his own. Manley was never able to adjust his strategy and lost the fight on all three judges' cards.
What was the high point of the fight?
The final bell.
Where do they go from here?
Magny persevered despite facing an opponent that offered little more than a stifling clinch as offense. He was good enough to win the fight, but being unable to really counter and punish Manley's minimalist attack shows that he still has a lot of room to grow.
Dana White hasn't hidden his disdain for the TUF 16 talent at all. That doesn't forebode well for Manley who will likely be cut after this loss.
Watch it now, later, or never?
Never. Don't ever watch it. Ever.
