Keith Thurman def. Josesito Lopez via majority decision (113-113, 115-111, 117-109)
In the main event of PBC on Fox, Keith Thurman managed to pull off the win over Josesito Lopez, though it wasn’t easy. The early rounds were almost exclusively Thurman, with the Welterweight champion controlling the action. In round 2, a fast Thurman hook dropped Lopez. Thurman tried to finish after that, but the round ended and Lopez survived. Thurman controlled the next few rounds.
Round 7 changed the fight. An aggressive Lopez came strong in that round and landed a number of shots that badly hurt Thurman and sent him stumbling around the ring. The referee had a close eye on Thurman and was clearly close to stopping things, but Thurman survived. The second half of the fight was a gunfight, with both men throwing hard shots and landing well. Each ate some heavy punches, and each survived. The two kept throwing and looking for the KO up until the literal final bell.
With the win, Thurman extends his perfect record to 29-0 and again cements his position as one of the best at Welterweight. The calls now will be for him to face one of the division’s elite - Errol Spence Jr., Terence Crawford, or perhaps Manny Pacquiao. Lopez drops to 36-8, though this is not a fight that drops his status by any means. He will likely get another high profile shot after this performance.
