The IBJJF European Championships is one of the biggest events on the BJJ calendar and it always provides us with some memorable moments and this year was no exception.
While nogi grappling has proven more popular with the viewers, gi jiu jitsu will always have a loyal fanbase and they turned out in numbers to support their favorite athletes in Lisbon last weekend. The big names turned out in force and put on some stellar performances with the Miyao brothers looking sharp as ever and Kaynan Duarte showing just how good he is by tearing through his bracket at just 20 years of age.
In the female divisions, Ffion Davies was a particular standout performer as she earned another gold, adding to the World Championship that she won just last month. Davies only got her black belt in late 2018 and is already proving her self as one of the premier female grapplers in the world.

GRAPPLING STORIES
UK grappling sensation Ross Nicholls recently revealed that Bellator MMA tried to sign him after his win over Gianni Grippo at Grapple Fest. Nicholls is a black belt under Roger Gracie and has recently won ADCC trials, but has declared that he has no interest in pursuing MMA.
Jake Shields made his return to the mats at Fight 2 Win 98, but it wasn’t without controversy as he knocked the referee off the stage while going for a take down. The referee was uninjured and Shields used his stifling top game to earn the victory over fellow MMA fighter Ron Keslar.
Buchecha and Gordon Ryan have both signed on for the IBJJF heavyweight GP, which is set to go down at the Evexia Fit Fest on August 24th in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ryan and Buchecha are widely regarded as two of the best in the world and this tournament could be the first time the pair meet each other on the mats.
