After four rounds, it was evident that the scores could be all over the place. UFC 225’s co-headliner was basically Rafael dos Anjos’ cleaner, better power shots, versus Covington’s pressure and control. Covington also had takedowns, but didn’t really do damage or keep it on the floor. Dos Anjos landed the best shots of the contest, but didn’t hurt him enough to clearly take it.
I personally still give more weight to RDA’s cleaner, better, power shots. But somewhat unsurprisingly, the judges favored control more and it’s their scores that matter. In the end, Covington becomes your new interim welterweight champion.
The scores were unanimous, 49-46, 48-47, and 48-47 all for Covington.
After the contest, he took the mic and called out the real welterweight champion in Tyron Woodley. He also promised to take his interim belt like a “real American” and bring it to Donald Trump in the White House.
