UFC 221 Video: Luke Rockhold arrives on a camel, says move to light heavyweight is ‘imminent’

“Some people arrive in chariots, some people pick white horses. Here in Perth, I choose camels,” this what Luke Rockhold said as he had a pretty unique entrance at the UFC 221 open-workouts.

Rockhold will be headlining UFC 221 against Yoel Romero this weekend, and it will be for the interim middleweight championship. Despite going for a title at 185 lbs and possibly setting up a unification bout with Robert Whittaker, the 33-year-old is already talking about a change in division.

“(The weight cut) never gets any easier,” Rockhold told Submission Radio. “I’m getting older and my bones are getting thicker and it gets harder to get down in this weight. Having this open workout on a Friday, it’s tough. But I feel good, and I’ve got a great team around me. They have my nutrition down to a science. I’m ahead of schedule this time around, and I’ll be fine.”

“But 205 is imminent,” he said. “DC moving up to heavyweight, he’s not coming back, so I’ll be up there soon.”

With Daniel Cormier returning to heavyweight to face current champion Stipe Miocic, Rockhold isn’t the only AKA product that could possibly switch divisions. Cormier has also recently hinted at Cain Velasquez possibly looking at a drop to 205 lbs as well.
