Coach Mark Henry: McGregor ‘ducked’ Frankie Edgar ‘three times’ in the past

Yesterday, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor claimed that he offered to fight Frankie Edgar on short notice at next week’s UFC 222 pay-per-view, and it’s caused quite the stir on social media.

Edgar’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, called McGregor a ‘liar’ and a ‘prostitute’, claiming that ‘The Notorious’ has never had any interest in throwing down with ‘The Answer’.

Abdelaziz was backed up by Edgar’s long-time striking coach Mark Henry, who has developed somewhat of a feud with McGregor since the Irishman burst onto the scene in 2015.

Henry, who coaches Edgar out of Toms River, New Jersey, accused McGregor of ducking his prized student three times in the past and said Edgar would even be willing to fight him in the boxing ring.

McGregor, 29, fought a who’s who of featherweight contenders (Chad Mendes, Dustin Poirier, Max Holloway) in his epic title run from 2013-2015 but, unfortunately, never crossed paths with Edgar, who is one of the toughest and craftiest veterans in the game.

Instead of fighting McGregor, Edgar, a former lightweight champion, will take on surging featherweight prospect Brian Ortega in the co-main event of UFC 222. The pay-per-view takes place next weekend, March 3 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
