Joanne Calderwood vs. Ariane Lipski added to UFC 233

Per Haljestam-USA TODAY Sports

Ariane Lipski will make her UFC debut in January, as she is set to fight Joanne Calderwood in a women’s flyweight bout at UFC 233.

ESPN first reported the matchup on Thursday. Lipski was supposed to be making her UFC debut later this month as she was set to fight Maryna Moroz, but a broken foot forced Moroz out of the fight.

Calderwood (12-3) returned to flyweight after a brief stint at strawweight this August, when she picked up the first submission win of her career against Kalindra Faria at UFC Lincoln. Before that win, “JoJo” dropped consecutive losses at 115 pounds, missing weight in her defeat to Cynthia Calvillo, and suffering a first round submission loss to Jessica Andrade.

Lipski (11-3) is undefeated in MMA since 2015, and is currently on a nine-fight winning streak. “The Violence Queen” has picked up six finishes in her last seven fights, spending most of her fighting career with KSW where she was the promotion’s women’s flyweight champion.

A main event for the UFC 233 card taking place in Anaheim, California on January 26th has not yet been announced. Two lightweight fights were recently added to the card, with James Vick taking on Paul Felder, and Islam Makachev facing Francisco Trinaldo.
