Cynthia Calvillo says towel was ‘too low’ at weigh-in: I didn’t want to give everyone a ‘free show’

Cynthia Calvillo looked to be on the verge of fainting at the UFC Fight Night 140 weigh-ins but, according to the strawweight herself, she was worried about the towel being ‘too low’ and exposing her private parts.

“I think it looked way worse when I weighed in,” Calvillo told the media on Saturday (h/t MMA Mania’s Jesse Holland). “It looked like I almost fainted, but the truth of the matter is when I got onto the scale my face didn’t look too happy. I was being really careful, the towel itself was too low, they told me to put my hands up and I would have shown my whole top. So that’s why I went down, it looked like I was gonna faint, but that’s not the case. I just didn’t want to give everyone a free show.”

Calvillo, 31, ended up weighing in three pounds over the strawweight limit and fought Poliana Botelho at a catchweight of 118 lbs. The California-based fighter was fined 20 percent of her fight purse for missing weight.

Despite her rough weight cut, Calvillo went on to submit Bothelo with a rear-naked choke in the first round at Estadio Mary Teran de Weiss in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Calvillo came under fire from fellow UFC fighter Roxanne Modafferi for missing weight, but coach Justin Buchholz revealed his student was on her ‘period’ during fight week.

With the win, Calvillo will likely crack the strawweight top-fifteen once the UFC updates its rankings.
