It appears, for now at least, that the elusive Nick Diaz is looking to step back into the Octagon and resume his fighting career. The former Strikeforce welterweight champion hasn’t fought since a January 2015 loss to Anderson Silva (that was flipped to a No Contest when both men failed drug tests), and has been frequently caught in the cross-hairs of USADA since then. But apparently he’s going to take a fight in March against Jorge Masvidal. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto has the news:
Diaz (26-9, 2 NC, 6-6, 1 NC UFC), the older brother of Nate Diaz, hasn’t won an MMA bout since 2011 when he defeated B.J. Penn via unanimous decision. Masvidal (32-13, 9-6 UFC) hasn’t competed since a decision loss to Stephen Thompson in November 2017.
It should be emphasized that the bout agreements are not signed as of yet. This is a Diaz brother we’re talking about, so until pen is to paper and he actually steps foot in the Octagon, take this with a grain of salt. But it’s a good sign at least.
As mentioned in the tweet, UFC 235 goes down on March 2nd in Las Vegas. No other bouts are attached to the event as of yet.
