In the co-main event of UFC Fight Night: The Korean Zombie vs. Rodriguez, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone proved he is still a force to be reckoned with after defeating the upstart ‘Platinum’ Mike Perry. In the process Cerrone made history, taking ownership of the record for most wins and finishes in UFC history.
Welterweight: Donald Cerrone def. Mike Perry via submission (armbar), Round 1 (4:46).
Round one started more patiently than many would have expected, with Perry and Cerrone feeling each other out at range and in the clinch. At the two minute mark, Cerrone shot in on Perry, but Perry sprawled and then muscled Cerrone backwards. Perry took Cerrone down, but Cerrone quickly grabbed an arm and used it to reverse position. Cerrone then moved to Perry’s back, but was too rash. He fell forwards, giving Perry a chance to poster up and throw ground and pound. However, Cerrone was able to improvise. He threw up a triangle to keep Perry at bay. Then he switched to an armbar. It was deep. Perry tried to slam his way out of it, but he just made things worse. With Cerrone flat out and cranking on his arm, Perry tapped.
