Patrick Cote took on Thiago Alves in a battle of tenured veterans at the main card of UFC 210. Alves managed to win a unanimous decision after 15 minutes, and it is shortly after that when his opponent in Cote took off his gloves and left it in the middle of the Octagon.

It’s been well over a decade since Cote’s UFC debut, and on Saturday night, the French Canadian fighter has decided to retire.

“That was the plan since the beginning, win or lose, that would be my last fight,” Thank you very much. It's been an amazing 15 years. Thank you the fans.”

Cote started his MMA career in 2002, and has competed in three divisions throughout his career. He made his UFC debut against Tito Ortiz at light heavyweight back at UFC 50, dropped down to middleweight, and eventually welterweight on this last bout of his career.

He has fought and beaten several talented fighters in his multiple stints in the UFC, and will probably be best remembered for his stretch at 185 lbs from 2007 to 2008. Cote rose to contention by winning 5 straight bouts, and eventually earned a title shot against one of the best ever in Anderson Silva.

Cote retires with an overall record of 23-11.
