Flyweight Kyoji Horiguchi is officially a free agent

Another one bites the dust. The UFC has been purging their roster to a great degree over the last few days and weeks, and it looks like one of the top flyweights on the roster is on his way out of the organization as well.

It had been rumored that Kyoji Horiguchi’s contract was up, and that turned out to be true. Now FloCombat is reporting that the UFC did offer him a new contract, but he wasn’t happy with the terms and turned it down.

The 26-year-old Horiguchi (18-2, 7-1 UFC) was ranked third at 125 pounds in the most recent UFC rankings, but has since been removed from the category. His only loss in the promotion came in a title fight against Demetrious Johnson in April 2015. He is currently on a three-fight winning streak, with the most recent coming over Ali Bagauntinov (who was released by the UFC just a couple of weeks ago) in November.

It has been suggested that RIZIN would be very interested in Horiguchi’s services. We’ll have to see if the former Shooto champ ends up there, or somewhere else.
