Chael Sonnen might be on the comeback trail.
Sonnen was suspended two years ago by the Nevada Athletic Commission after testing positive for the banned substances anastrozole and clomiphene on May 24th in a random drug test in Las Vegas ahead of his scheduled UFC 175 fight against Wanderlei Silva. Since then, Sonnen has been adamant that his professional mixed martial arts career is over and that he is happy in retirement.
That may not be the case though. Yesterday, USADA updated their website to reveal that Sonnen has been tested twice already this quarter.
In a statement to MMA Junkie, Sonnen confirmed the tests and said that this doesn't mean he will be returning to active competition, at least, "not if the test is as good as I remember it being."
The 39-year-old hasn't competed since a loss to Rashad Evans in 2013. Sonnen's two year suspension ends this Saturday, July 23.
