They weren't necessarily cut, but they're not fighting in the UFC either. However you want to put it, there are another four fighters who are no longer fighting for the UFC. Chris Kelades, Levan Makashvili, Noad Lahat, and Joby Sanchez are all now outside the Zuffa organization.
Kelades recently announced his free agency on Twitter, clarifying in a second post that he hadn't been "released," but that the UFC was "not re-signing a new contract" with him.
Kelades went 2-2 during his brief stint with the UFC, beating Patrick Holohan and Chris Beal. In his most recent fight, he dropped a unanimous decision to Sergio Pettis. While he's only been fighting since 2009, at 35, Kelades may have a tricky road getting back to the UFC, especially at flyweight where speed and agility tend to be the defining characteristics of the division.
Similarly, MMAFighting announced that Noad Lahat has just completed signing a new contract with Bellator. No details were included as to whether Lahat's former contract had expired, or whether he'd been released, but Lahat was also 2-2 in his time with the UFC. The 32-year-old defeated Steven Siler and Niklas Backstrom, sandwiched between flying knee KO losses to Godofredo Castro and Diego Rivas.
And on the flip side, in unannounced UFC releases, both Makashvili and Sanchez have ended up booked for fights with regional promotions in the near future. Makashvili will actually make his return to the cage this weekend at CES 36 where the 27-year-old Georgian will face Ryan Sanders. Makashvili went 1-1-1 for the UFC, with a split decision win, a split decision loss and most recently a draw against Damon Jackson that appears to have gotten both fighters the axe. I wouldn't be surprised to see Makashvili return if he can stay successful outside the UFC.
Sanchez won't be coming back quite as quick, but the 24-year-old Jackson-Wink fighter is taking on Hector Sandoval at Global Knockout 7 on August 27th. It's pretty surpising to see Sanchez gone from the UFC, as he had been scheduled to fight Justin Scoggins just back in December, before Scoggins pulled out of the bout due to injury. Sanchez went 1-2 under Zuffa, losing to Geane Herrera via KO in his last fight.
