Long-reigning World Series of Fighting bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes is likely going to be staying with the promotion. His contract expired recently, and there was much speculation that he might move over to the UFC. According to his manager Ali Abdel-Aziz (via MMA Fighting) though, that will not be the case.
Moraes (17-4-1, 10-0 WSOF) won the promotion's 135-pound title in his fifth fight in the promotion back in March of 2014. Since then he has successfully defended the title four times, finishing the last three bouts. His most recent victory came over Josh Hill by TKO in July.
According to his manager, Moraes will defend his title on New Year's Eve at a show in the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York City.
Justin Gaethje, who had a title fight cancelled at the last minute over the weekend, is also expected to defend his lightweight title on that card.
No opponent for either man has been named as of yet.
