Thursday night, the UFC announced a heavyweight rematch between two former champions. The rumored bout has finally been confirmed as Fabricio Werdum will take on Cain Velasquez as part of UFC 207.
Velasquez and Werdum are both coming off dominant victories over Travis Browne at UFC 200 and UFC 203 respectively.
Werdum submitted Velasquez to take the heavyweight title back in 2015 at UFC 188. This happened in Mexico, and Velasquez’s camp blamed the altitude for the loss, and essentially gave birth to the whole ‘Sea Level Cain’ meme.
Apart from their original match, the UFC has also tried to book this match up on two separate occasions. Both were cancelled due to injuries.
UFC 207 will be headlined by Ronda Rousey vs. Amanda Nunes, and a title defense by Dominick Cruz, which will likely be against Cody Garbrandt. Other match ups for the December 30 event include Mike Pyle vs. Alex Garcia, Tim Means vs. Alex Oliveira, Johny Hendricks vs. Neil Magny, and Tarec Saffiedine vs. Matt Brown.
