UFC lightweight contender, Tony Ferguson has been dispatching the competition in exciting fashion since his winning run on season 13 of The Ultimate Fighter. Currently on an 8-fight hot streak, the 32-year-old Californian is preparing to go to war once again with the hopes that with a ninth, straight win, he’ll get a well-deserved shot at the title.
The opponent, this time around, is former lightweight champion, Rafael dos Anjos, a California transplant originally hailing from Brazil. Ferguson, one of the most underappreciated “talking heads” in the sport, has been relatively low-key in the lead-up to the fight, and outside a heated Twitter discussion with current middleweight champion, Michael Bisping, has been almost exclusively focused on his upcoming battle.
Notice I said “almost.” The man they call “El Cucuy” has had one other project that’s been several months in the making, his amazing, hand-built training facility in Big Bear, CA. In a recent interview with Champions.co, Ferguson gave a brief video tour of the camp, and treated us to a few razor sharp barbs directed at his arch nemesis, Khabib Nurmagomedov.
"I made my phone calls, got my own sponsorships for my cage and did my own stuff. I paid for my own things. I'm tired of labels. This is my label right here: El Cucuy."
He went on to field a few more questions from Dave Rispoli, particularly how he felt about Khabib’s threats to leave his UFC contract.
"Good. Get the hell out of here," Ferguson said about Nurmagomedov. "Drop a weight class or go up a weight class. You don't belong here, dude. You can't fight one time then get a fake belt."
Ferguson faces dos Anjos on November 5th in the main event of The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 3 Finale, live from Mexico City, Mexico.
