UFC Portland: Tommy Toehold’s top fighter picks

Hey, hey, it’s fight day! UFC Portland marks the 96th installment of the Fight Night series, and while the card is a little bland on paper, the match-ups absolutely have the potential to be edge-of-your-seat entertainment.

There are three fresh faces on the card; Brandon Moreno, Joachim Christensen and Ketlen Vieira, as well as plenty of familiar ones that should provide plenty of action for fight fans. With Oliveira and Lineker coming in just under the sumo limit, their fights should be especially entertaining.

The smorgasboard of weight classes always makes for a fun event, especially when you’ve got big heavyweights alternating between trying to remove heads from shoulders and not passing out from oxygen deprivation.

These are the kind of sleeper events that end up making us all happy campers for enduring through terrible television pacing and endless commercials. I, for one, am looking forward to cracking open an icy cold Mexican Coke while I get my fill of sanctioned violence.

You know who else is looking forward to some face punching fun? Thomas J. Toehold, Esquire. Our cartoon content partner is back with another breakdown video where he gives us his Top 5 fighter picks from tonight’s card.

Here’s a transcribed portion of the video to get you started:

“My number 2 pick is Henrique da Silva. He had a huge UFC debut with 8.82 significant strikes landed per minute. He is 11-0 with 100% KO/TKO rate. If he puts on a performance anywhere near his debut, it's going to be fireworks.”
