Report: UFC 197 to feature Dos Anjos vs McGregor, Holm vs Tate doubleheader

The biggest question surrounding Conor McGregor's future was whether or not he would first defend his UFC featherweight title vs. Frankie Edgar, or move up to 155 and fight lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos. It looks like the answer is the latter. Bleacher Report's Jeremy Botter reports that the UFC is set to announce dos Anjos vs. McGregor and Holly Holm vs. Miesha Tate for UFC 197 in Las Vegas on Saturday, March 5th.

Obviously that's a gigantic PPV if it becomes official. Dos Anjos (25-7) is coming off a 66 second mauling of Donald Cerrone in the UFC on FOX 17 main event on December 19th. It's the Brazilian's first successful defense of his title. McGregor (19-2) unforgettably knocked out Jose Aldo in 13 seconds at UFC 194 to become the UFC's new featherweight champion. His goal was to simultaneously hold two UFC titles, and he's evidently getting that shot at an historical achievement.

Earlier this week it was announced by UFC president Dana White that Holm (10-0) would take another fight before a potential rematch with Ronda Rousey (12-1), whom Holm knocked out with a head kick at UFC 193. Tate (17-5) was originally set to fight Rousey a 3rd time after defeating Jessica Eye last July, but Holm ended up getting the next title shot, much to Miesha's dismay.

Again, the UFC hasn't confirmed any of this, but as the report from Botters notes, they're expected to formally announce it soon, and if/when they do, we'll update you ASAP.
