UFC 195 results: Poirier, Tanaka, Westcott pick up wins

Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

The first three UFC 195 fights are in the book, and all three brought the entertainment. Two went to decision, but they were action-packed. The other was one-sided and vicious. Here's how it went down.

Dustin Poirier defeated Joe Duffy unanimous decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27)

This was all it was cracked up to be, and a bit more. The first round saw both men hurt the other on the feet with big shots. Poirier's nose was busted and Duffy's eye was swollen badly. Poirier took Duffy down and dominated him in the second, battering him with punches and elbows. The third started the same way, but Duffy was able to threaten with a leg lock and a late triangle. Overall though, Poirier looked very impressive and it was a great fight.

Michinori Tanaka defeated Joe Soto by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

This was a very good back-and-forth fight. Both men had their moments striking - Takaka over the first two rounds, Soto in the third. Soto threatened with submissions from the bottom in every round, including a cool gogoplata attempt late in the first. The second was clearly Tanaka, the third Soto's, so it came down to a close first round. In the end, two judges gave it to the Japanese fighter.

Sheldon Westcott defeated Edgar Garcia by TKO (strikes), 3:12 of round 1

This was all Westcott. He got a takedown and locked up a body triangle, not allowing Garcia to escape. He beat him down with strikes, throwing over 100 on the ground with Garcia completely stuck. He was able to block some of them, but it was clear that he wasn't going anywhere. The referee let it go on far too long, but eventually waved it off and awarded Westcott the win.
