Since losing via split decision to Robbie Lawler in a pulsating back-and-forth clash at UFC 195, Carlos Condit is considering retirement.
"The Natural Born Killer" has cemented himself as one of the most entertaining fighters in the sport and earned legendary status after going toe-to-toe with Lawler for five rounds. And, although retirement is knocking on the doorstep, the 31-year-old admits that a rematch with the welterweight champion excites him.
Condit spoke to Duane Finely for UFC.com.
"I've been thinking about my future for a long time. Fighting is a tough sport where happy endings are few and far between, and I definitely want to leave the game before the game leaves me. Fighting is such a big part of who I am and the chance to get back in there with Robbie again is something I could get excited about. But if it's time to explore a new path, then I'll go into it with the same passion. It's always been about the journey for me and I guess we'll have to wait and see how things play out."
Despite the entertainment the bout delivered, many fans were upset with the decision and believed Condit should be granted with an immediate rematch. The Albuquerque local previously fought and lost to Georges St-Pierre for the official welterweight title at UFC 154, but earned interim gold when he edged out Nick Diaz in 2012.
If Condit does decide to hang up the gloves, it's expected that the winner of Johny Hendricks and Stephen Thompson at UFC 196 will challenge Lawler for the belt.
