Johny Hendricks was hoping to get a third fight with current UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler, but found out a few weeks ago that he'd be facing off with Tyron Woodley instead. The bout will actually take place a lot earlier than expected though - at UFC 192, on October 3rd in Houston. The bout and date were confirmed by the fine folks on UFC Tonight.
Hendricks (17-3, 12-3) dropped his title to Lawler via split decision at UFC 181 in December. He rebounded with a decision win over Matt Brown at UFC 185 in March.
Woodley (15-3, 5-2 UFC) hasn't competed since January, where he picked up a split-decision win over an overweight Kelvin Gastelum.
The bout had initially been expected to take place in December, possibly on a card in Calgary. It had been speculated that it would serve as the co-main event to a welterweight title fight between Lawler and Carlos Condit. That bout is now tentatively set for a card in Australia now though, and this bout will likely serve as the co-main event for the Houston card.
The headliner for UFC 192 will see Daniel Cormier defending his UFC light heavyweight title against Alexander Gustafsson.
