On Monday it was announced that Nick Diaz's hearing with the Nevada Athletic Commission on August 13th was cancelled due to a schedule conflict with his attorney. The Californian tested positive for marijuana metabolites after losing to Anderson Silva in the main event of UFC 183 on January 31st.
Diaz's failed drug test at UFC 183 marked the third time the former Strikeforce champion had violated the rules. The 32-year-old had also tested positive for marijuana metabolites after his interim welterweight title fight with Carlos Condit at UFC 143 and after his win over Takanori Gomi at Pride 37, which was subsequently overruled to a no contest.
As well as the schedule conflict, there has also been a mix-up with Diaz's test results. The Stockton native passed two out of his three drug tests at UFC 183, as there appear to have been conflicting reports from SMRTL and Quest Diagnostics. Diaz submitted two urine samples to SMRTL and one to Quest Diagnostics, however, only Quest Diagnostics revealed elevated levels of marijuana metabolites (300 ng/mL).
Diaz hired a New York-based law firm to tackle the bizarre results and it was expected that the Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu student would plead his case to the NAC today. MMAFighting confirmed yesterday, however, that Diaz's hearing has been rescheduled for September.
