Luke Rockhold: I believe I’m the best fighter in the world

Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Following a spectacular 2014 that saw him finish three ranked opponents, there is little doubt that Luke Rockhold is one of the most competent fighters in the middleweight division. Aware of his talenta nd physical attributes, the former Strikeforce champion believes it is only a matter of time before he challenges for the 185-pound crown.

"This is what it is," Rockhold said at the Welcome to the Show press conference last week. "People can talk, but there's nothing left after this for me except for the title."

Before he gets such an opportunity, however, he will have to eliminate another obstacle in former UFC light-heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. While Rockhold is weary of the task at hand, he is confident that he will defeat his Brazilian foe in decisive fashion.

"I think I'm better than him everywhere. It's as different stylistic matchup. He hasn't fought a southpaw like me that can hit hard like me, kick hard, kick with him, punch with him - I can do everything, and I believe I can do everything better."

Now 30 years old, Rockhold believes the time is upon him to prove that he is the top talent in his division, and one of the best fighters in the entire promotion.

"I know what I want, and I believe it's ahead of me. I believe I'm the best fighter in the world."
