In the latest chronicles of Ronda Rousey vs. The World, the news waves are positively buzzing with the latest development involving retired women's pro-boxing superstar, Laila Ali. Ali was asked recently how she thought a fight with the UFC women's bantamweight champion would go, whereby she replied without missing a beat, that no woman on earth could beat her.
"That's like a question I'm not even going to answer because, for one, I'm not a UFC fighter and she's not a boxer, and no woman can beat me," Ali said. "Period."
Naturally, these words are a promoter's dream, and for UFC president, Dana White, they present an opportunity that should be seized. In a recent report by FOX Sports, he not only extended a challenge to Ali, he even went so far as to boast that Rousey would finish her in the same time frame (or less) that she finished recent Number 1 contender, Cat Zingano.
"(Rousey) is actually the best fighter in the world," White told TMZ. "Laila Ali would be in big trouble against Ronda Rousey. Laila, if you're serious, call me. If she wants it, she'll get it. Call me. No disrespect to Laila, but she would be in the 14-second range," White said, referencing the time it took Rousey to walk through her last opponent in the UFC. "I'm serious if she's serious."
With worthy competition for Rousey becoming more scarce, I find myself more than a little curious when I ponder possible outcomes. As always, Bloody Elbow will keep our readers updated on this story as more information becomes available.
