We are just over five weeks away from what is sure to be the biggest combat sports event of 2015 - Mayweather vs. Pacquiao. Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao takes place on Saturday May 2 live on PPV. Bloody Elbow will, of course, have all the coverage.
With a few weeks out until fight time, now is a good time to check in on the fight odds. Here's the latest, courtesy of Bovada:
Floyd Mayweather -200
Manny Pacquiao +160
Quick crash course for those unfamiliar with betting odds - the negative number means Mayweather is the favorite. You would have to bet $200 on him to win $100 (plus your $200 back), while for Pacquiao, you would need to bet $100 to win $160 (again, plus your original $100 back).
It's understandable that the undefeated Mayweather is the favorite as he takes on a Manny Pacquiao just three fights removed from his crushing KO loss to Juan Manuel Marquez. That said, this is a somewhat surprisingly close line. In his last fight, Mayweather was roughly -800 against Marcos Maidana. Prior to the Maidana fights, he got as low as -260 for the Canelo fight - a line that seems shockingly off in retrospect. Now, he's even closer. There was a lot of money to be made on Mayweather in that Canelo fight - will the same be true against Pacquiao?

For those looking to really take a risk, you can also get odds of 50 to 1 against Mayweather winning the fight within the first three rounds. Of Mayweather's 47 career wins, only 26, just over half, come via KO. The last time he won that early was a 2nd round stoppage of Angel Manfredy way back in 1998 when Mayweather was just 19-0, though he did come close with his 4th round stoppage of Victor Ortiz in 2011. He's had five straight decision wins since.
What do you say Bloody Elbow readers - worth putting some money on this one?
