Since the UFC signed the Reebok sponsorship with the UFC, most fighters have fallen in line. One who most definitely has not is featherweight champion Jose Aldo. Aldo has routinely criticized the deal, and turned down a personal sponsorship deal with Reebok when it was offered to him due to his lucrative deal with Venum. Now that his Venum deal is almost up though, he's negotiating with a few suitors, including both of the above.
Coach/manager Andre Pederneiras explained the situation to MMA Fighting:
"Actually, we’re still under contract with Venum," Pederneiras said. "Are we in negotiation with Reebok? Ever since they signed with the UFC. Not only with them, but also with a third one. We’re going to sit and talk with everyone to see what’s best for Aldo."
Despite stating earlier in the year that Aldo would be losing a lot of money with the Reebok deal, Pederneiras said that wasn't actually the case due to his sponsors staying on with him:
"Honestly, it changes nothing for Aldo," he said. "He lost those sponsors that pay to appear on fight night, but those monthly ones, that pay all year long, nobody left."
Aldo will wear a Reebok uniform for the first time when he faces off with Conor McGregor in a title unification bout at UFC 194 on December 12th.
