Colorado's Elevation Fight Team had already boasted a stable featuring Neil Magny, Brandon Thatch, and Cat Zingano, but over the past few days they've added three more prominent UFC faces to the camp. Earlier this week, UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw made the move to Elevation Fight Team from Team Alpha male, and now we know that top 10 welterweight Matt Brown and top 15 featherweight Clay Guida will also train there. Camp head coach Leister Bowling spoke to MMA Fighting about the new acquisitions:
"[Brown] has great training and great coaches back home [in Ohio], too," Bowling said. "But the training partners for him, I think he was just looking for a place where he knew every day he was gonna have somebody to train with."
Guida, who is sponsored by MusclePharm, is also a relatively new addition. He had bounced around between JacksonWink MMA in Albuquerque and Team Alpha Male in Sacramento recently.
"It's awesome to have him," Bowling said.
The MusclePharm investment means that fighters can get their training under one roof, as opposed to the old deal of going to various other gyms within the area to train specific things.
Bowling also addressed accusations made by Urijah Faber that he was actively "recruiting" Alpha Male guys to go to his camp:
"Our doors are always open to anybody who wants to come train," Bowling said. "But I think the biggest thing Urijah said that's not true is that I'm trying to actively recruit guys. I don't want a whole lot of high-level guys. I want to be able to focus on the guys we do have. Right now, I think we have 10 guys in the UFC and I want to be able to give those guys every bit of attention I can."
Brown and Guida both have fights lined up for November, with Matt headlining a UFC Fight Night in Mexico on the 21st vs. Kelvin Gastelum, while Clay battles Thiago Tavares on the 7th in Brazil.
