Satoshi Ishii has been on the veterans tour for a while now. A weird place for a 27 year old prospect to stay, fighting the likes of Jeff Monson, Tim Sylvia, Pedro Rizzo, and Kazuyuki Fujita well past their sell by dates. Most recently he took on former Pride star and UFC vet Mirko Cro Cop. Of all the veterans Ishii has fought recently, Cro Cop may have had the most left in the tank. He won a much diminished version of the K-1 World Grand Prix in 2013, and while he lost recently to Oleksiy Oliynyk, he's still had his moments in the ring. It just so happened that August 23, 2014 at Inoki Genome Fight 2 was another of them.
It wasn't the most thrilling fight, but an elbow from the bottom in the first round caught Ishii square in the forehead and opened him up. The fight would make it to round two, but with Japanese MMA promotions being notoriously squeamish about blood in the ring, it was only a matter of time before the bout was stopped.
