Last night the UFC broke the news that UFC 176 was scrubbed from the calendar after failing to find a main event to replace Jose Aldo/Chad Mendes 2. Gegard Mousasi was scheduled to be the co-main event opposite fellow middleweight contender Ronaldo Souza, but that fight along with the rest of the card will be rescheduled across several different UFC shows.
All of this was brand new to Mousasi, who posted (and later deleted) from his Facebook page earlier today:
...And responded to this question on Twitter about how he felt that the entire card was called off:
Not really a good look if the UFC didn't directly inform everyone about the card no longer happening before they published their official press release on Tuesday night. It definitely wouldn't be the first time a fighter has found out about a UFC decision through social media.
It looks like his fight with Jacare has found a new home. UFC president Dana White tweeted to a fan that Mousasi/Jacare II will be at UFC Fight Night: Connecticut on September 5th.
The UFC's website hasn't officially announced this fight for the Foxwoods, CT card, nor is it confirmed as the main event. Perhaps it should also be noted that we're less than 2 months away from that show and no main event has been announced, so this could be the solution.
