UFC 180 will mark the UFC's inaugural trip to Mexico and will feature a heavyweight title fight between the division's champion Cain Velasquez and Brazilian contender Fabricio Werdum. The title fight headliner is a compelling and competitive contest that has fans and pundits mulling over the outcome. Even UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem is not certain who will emerge victorious from this contest.
"Well it's hard to predict because Cain is a tough bastard and Fabricio is a tricky bastard," Overeem told Submission Radio. "It can go both ways, I just don't know. Cain doesn't fight that often so it's hard to gauge his improvement level, and Fabricio is improving all the time.
"60/40 for Cain, but don't rule out Fabricio. Many times people have ruled him out, and every time he keeps crawling back. He's tough, like a cockroach."
Overeem is going through a variety of changes in his professional life, including switching his gym, management team, and place of residence. He only recently ended a two-fight skid that saw him lose dramatically to both Antonio Silva and Travis Browne. Now that he back to his winning ways, the Dutchman is looking to propel himself back to title contention, starting with his scheduled encounter with Ben Rothwell at UFC Fight Night: Connecticut this coming September.
When asked who he expects to face in that potential title fight scenario, Overeem suggested that Velasquez would be the likely bet, but he would rather face Werdum for the title.
In either case, "The Reem" believes he will soon have a new title to add to his mantle.
"Still I think Cain should get him, 60/40 for Cain. But, but I would like to fight Fabricio for the title. And on my own personal goals I definitely see a UFC title upcoming. You know, it's been a little bit of a rough time, a lot of changes. Changes are never good, usually are for the better, as you see in my case it wasn't. But yeah, now everything is kind of settled down and I definitely see a new title coming."
