As announced by Titan FC officials, Ben Saunders and Matt Riddle are set to clash for the vacant welterweight title on August 22.
Although he technically won his last four fights with Zuffa, Riddle was released after testing positive for Marijuana, and has continued his streak by defeating fellow UFC veteran Michael Kuiper at Titan FC 27. Saunders on the other hand, will be making his promotional debut after a long stint with Bellator that saw him go 7-3 and crack the finals of their welterweight tournaments twice, both times dropping tough losses to the Bellator champ in Douglas Lima.
"First I wanna say thank you to Titan FC and Jeff and Lex for giving me this opportunity. I am very grateful not only to fight for their welterweight title, but also for giving me a fight with someone as talented as Riddle" Saunders told Bloody Elbow moments after the news broke, "I am a fan of his and enjoy his fighting style. I honestly can't think of two guys that love to fight more than us."
"You've got two guys who are known for always coming to fight. We both try to win in exciting fashion, so win, lose, or draw we tend to produce exciting fights. We both want this win badly, so on August 22nd may the best man win. It's gonna come down to who wants it more."
News about the title fight, was first reported by MMA Fighting, also stating that a Light Heavyweight title fight between Jason Brilz, and Vinny Magalhaes is set to happen on Titan FC's September 26 event.
Speaking of Saunders, here's a trailer for his upcoming 'Behind the Fight' documentary:
