Demetrious Johnson thinks the World Cup could be to blame for the potentially low UFC 174 numbers.
The UFC flyweight champion knows he could potentially do more trash talking to promote his fights but believes it is his performances in the cage that should be the fans' focus. While he did many interviews ahead of his latest title defense against Ali Bagautinov, he considers the World Cup to be a primary reason for any low numbers on the Pay-Per-View.
"My job is to go out there and fight. Obviously I did the best I could to market and do promotion," Johnson told Sherdog.com. "I did a ton of interviews. At the end of the day we are competing with the World Cup, so there are also a lot of variables. It could have been a lack of luster with the card; maybe people just didn't want to see it."
