After weeks of careful consideration, Daniel Cormier has chosen to undergo knee surgery in July.
MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani reported on Wednesday's edition of UFC Tonight that Cormier will go under the knife in "early July" and will await the winner between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson thereafter. Prior to that, he will take part in an amateur wrestling match at the UFC Fan Expo against two-time NCAA champ and U.S. national team member Chris Pendleton.
The former Strikeforce Grand Prix champion initially injured his LCL ahead of his scheduled match-up against Dan Henderson. While he considered withdrawing from the fight, he ultimately decided to go through with it and ended up defeating the PRIDE legend via third round submission after a dominant performance.
Cormier earned No. 1 contender status with his win over Henderson but is still behind "The Maluer" in the 205lb. pecking order. The title fight is tentatively scheduled to take place ay UFC 178 on September 27.
