It appears Renan Barao may not have to wait long at all for a rematch against T.J. Dillashaw, as Dana White stated that the UFC would ‘probably' book an immediate rematch.
"It is probably going to be a Barao rematch," White stated at a pre-fight media scrum when asked about Dillashaw's next opponent.
The UFC President explained that while the division has several interesting challengers for T.J.'s title, Barao's undefeated streak and dominance warrant him an immediate title shot.
"Tell me if I'm wrong. As we sat there and started looking through the list of guys to fight T.J., how do you not give it to Barao, the guy who was undefeated all those years? I agree he got a five-round a** whooping and got finished, but how does it make sense to not give him the rematch? And who doesn't want to see it? I want to see it."
While he is mainly interesting in scheduling an immediate rematch, White is also aware of several other potential opponents for Dillashaw, including Dominick Cruz and Raphael Assuncao, who defeated Dillashaw last year via split decision.
"So imagine you do the Barao fight and then all these [other compelling] fights. You have Dominick Cruz who is going to be healthy too."
White also suggested that Dilashaw and his teammate and Team Alpha Male founder Urijah Faber would be willing to fight each other if that was the fight the UFC wanted to schedule.
"They'll fight each other tomorrow. Tomrrow. Trust me. That fight is absolutely one of the other ones that could happen too."
