World Series of Fighting is running out of people to fight Jon Fitch.
The initial title bout between him and champion Rousimar Palhares was scrapped as Palhares had to tend to personal matters. WSOF signed Jake Shields to fight Fitch in the co-main event of their July 5th card, but a long-term injury to Shields halted those plans. Josh Burkman, who already put Fitch to sleep with a guillotine choke last year, signed up for a trilogy bout as the new co-main. You can kiss those plans goodbye, as Burkman tweeted yesterday that a minor injury will keep him off the card.
Burkman last fought at WSOF 9 in March, knocking out Tyler Stinson in emphatic fashion in the 1st round.
Officials are looking to get Fitch another opponent, otherwise presumably he'll be booked for a different card.
WSOF 11 airs on NBC at 4 PM ET and is headlined by a lightweight title between champion Justin Gaethje and Nick Newell. Ex-UFC lightweight Melvin Guillard also makes his promotional debut against Gesias Cavalcante.
UPDATE: Dennis Hallman has stepped in to face Fitch, per MMA Fighting.
WSOF matchmaker Ali Abdel-Aziz told MMA Fighting that longtime MMA veteran Dennis Hallman would step in on less than a month's notice
