Your prayers have been answered. Sexyama will be back. Recently on Twitter, Yoshihiro Akiyama answered a fan's question, that I'm sure made many men and women rejoice.
The question and answer is translated as such:
Question: "Are you going to go into the ring this year? I want to see an Akiyama fight!"
Sexyama: "I'm certainly entering this year! Of course in the UFC!"
(Thank you to Reddit user 'Edamus' for the find and initial translation and @cjewett1987 for the translation confirmation)
Akiyama has not fought since a unanimous decision loss to recent UFC cut, Jake Shields, in Japan. To put things into perspective of how long it's been since Akiyama fought... Frankie Edgar was still lightweight champion, Rory MacDonald would demolish Che Mills in the UFC 145 co-main a month later and the UFC made their debut on Fuel TV about a week before UFC 144.
And you have to go all the way back to Akiyama's eye-opening debut on UFC 100 (in 2009!) for his last victory. Thiago Alves just had his first fight in two years, so maybe that is a sign of good things to come for Akiyama and all his fans. I know I don't speak for myself when I say we need more of this and this (I find it interesting that Hector Lombard and Akiyama both hit mesmerizing throws on Jake Shields).
